Speaker Ingrid Bredenberg M.A. is known for her fresh, innovative approaches to collaboration, creativity and leadership. For over 20 years she has been working with leaders in healthcare, education, government, and business, equipping them with strategic thinking and collaboration skills to lead their organizations more effectively. She teaches Leadership & Management at Marlboro College Graduate School in Brattleboro, VT and is on the faculty of several leadership programs in western Massachusetts. She is the designer of NY State’s Office of Healthcare Insurance Programs leadership program for senior leaders. Why is Leadership even more important now?
New England is at a precarious and pivotal point in its competitive position in the national economy. Among the greatest workforce challenges are an aging workforce, a shortage of skilled youth, and a mismatch of existing worker skill sets for today's and tomorrow's needs.
National workforce facts:
  • Health Care -75% of the medical knowledge is obsolete in 8-10 years.
  • Computers Replacing Human Capital - By 2015 the power of an off-the-shelf computer will exceed the intelligence of that of a human being.
  • The Need for Continuous Learning - 50% of the job and knowledge skills of Baby Boomers (born 1946-1964) became obsolete in 12-15 years; 50% the job and knowledge skills of those born after 1965 and before 1984 will become obsolete in just 30-36 months.
  • Future Workforce - 80% of the jobs today's kindergartners will occupy sometime in the future, don't yet exist.
In New England
  • Employment - Employment in New England has been basically flat for 15 years.
  • Aging Workforce - Seven of the 10 oldest states are in New England, with a median population age of 38.5.
  • Slow Population Growth - Seven of the 10 slowest growing states are in the Northeast.
Implications:
Our region needs workers that are able to keep pace with the accelerating educational and technological demands of the 21st Century workplace.
Leaders must be innovative collaborators, effective coaches and lifelong learners, gaining skills to move “at the speed of change”. They must be able to create a work environment that fosters trust and accountability. They must be able to implement strategies and provide time and resources to attract develop, and retain good workers.

  1. We should learn some crucial chapter of leadership from experience people and their attitude. Leadership is a quality; that, we should develop in our behavior and personality and it helps to boost our confidence level and skills. Therefore, we used to follow different types of leadership coaching programs to develop our leadership skills.
